因为反渗透膜的的膜孔非常的小大概在0.0001微米左右，由于膜孔的大小可以过滤掉水中大部分杂质，比如说病毒、细菌、重金属等等，有一些杂质会随着废水排出机体，但是有一些是会留在反渗透膜上无法排出的，这样随着使用的时间慢慢堆积形成沉淀，这时会使反渗透膜产水量降低或质量达不到预想的标准等，时间久了反渗透膜表面就会被杂质覆盖，通过清洗还是不能恢复过滤效果的，过滤效果依然很差，而且产水所需的压力也会升高，这样会增加耗电，导致成本升高。
怎么判断反渗透膜需要更换？
1.经过对反渗透膜进行清洗后还是达不到原来的产水需求。这时候要更换反渗透膜。
2.有的经过对反渗透膜的清洗维护，产水水质依然达不到要求，所以需要换膜，比如纯净水在生产过程中要求水质的电导率低于10us/cm，如果出现产水的水质电导率接近10，而且经过维护来还是无法降低，就要换膜了。
3.比如反渗透产水电导率偏高，引起混床再生频繁，虽然能够满足生产，但是操作变得频繁，所以需要换膜。
4.膜出现望远镜效应而破裂，被氧化后性能大幅度衰减等，所以需要换膜。
5.最直观的方法就是看出水量就可以了，要是出水量突然变得小了很多，用水压表测试废水的出水压力，要是压力值在6KG以上了就要更换了。
